after finishing the stitching of my "doodle cloth" i realised that i had made a fundamental slip up ...... i hadn't thought through the hanging - my excuse is that there wasn't really a design process involved here as it was only meant as a doodle cloth - bit it has given me another challenge which i think i have resolved
i wanted to include a reference to tally sticks somewhere, another way of recording information and passing it on - it was beginning to look as though i would have to drop the idea as they could look rather as though they were a late add-on - but i started working on some bits of wood anyway, as a distraction, and it gave me a chance to get out some tools
after a few experiments i have found a way of using some of my sticks for hanging the doodle cloth:
while i was stitching i also remembered hearing about quipu - there's another form of record keeping i'd like to explore ........ another time maybe
