back to cloth-weaving
this return to cloth-weaving came so naturally, it felt like coming home - it's the base layer for "my big brother", with whom i had a difficult relationship
stitching the memorial cloth about my father helped me come to terms with that fraught relationship so i am hoping that this will help too
the cloth-weave is a helpful approach for incorporating my words about him and us while partially concealing them - this means that only i know what they say - it also echoes an element of the concealed aspects of my brother's personality as i feel nobody saw the true person, only the parts he wanted to reveal
the current plan is to cover this with a transluscent layer with openings, through which parts of the weave will be exposed - for this i have ecoprinted a piece of silk organza (from my sister in law's wedding veil) using eucalyptus leaves and keys - the eucalyptus refers to my brother's life in Australia - to me this looked like the happiest part of his life as he was able to reinvent himself away from the family
