more boiler doiley

the beloved kindly gave me his latest cold so i am brain addled and weak - had to take a break from the embroiderer's ledger and tackle something less challenging

so i picked up boiler doiley M2 and have been making good progress - the appliqué panel for the centre has come together nicely with some simple, decorative but functional stitching - the individual squares were originally stitched together in 3 strips but i felt they needed some separation so i backed them with a piece of rust dyed greenish napkin, it also helped to space them out more

then i needed something to link the framing panels .... so i rooted through the stash for something to tear strips of for jude-style binding 'hugs' and had fun with working out how to piece it all together - the hugs also needed to be functional as well as decorative

et voila!

viewed objectively it's crudely stitched, basic patchwork and appliqué with grubby scraps of fabric, but i'm hardly going to be objective about it! as far as i'm concerned it's a masterpiece of reclaimed, eco-dyed fabrics, lovingly assembled with traditional hand stitching ........ or an exercise in traditional fabric recycling ....     or whatever, the main thing is i'm enjoying the process and already mulling over how to link this piece with the other half

i think it looks great - almost inspiring enough to start me doing patchwork again - if i didn't have so many other things to do...
