stitching with a purpose - 1
hot weather has finally arrived in the last week - another warm weather nightie was needed, so out came the machine and some lovely fine, light indian print ?muslin, from a vintage dress - i have hit the stage when i need "sensible" nighties so this one has a yoke instead of flimsy straps which fall down, and it's roomy, floaty, cool and acceptable for wear around the house - at a pinch i can open the front door in it
no picture - i know what it looks like and some things are best left to the imagination - i've been wearing it for days, i'll have to make another so i can wash this one!
while i had the machine out .... i made a window doiley:
the beloved man has fitted a new window pane where one had turned cloudy - also the previous 'veil' had shattered with UV exposure, so a new window doiley was needed - if i must have a net curtain it may as well be FUN
i had recently acquired some deliciously fine organza/organdie napkins with shadow-work flowers embroidered in the corner, from a salvation army shop, and i have plenty of other re-claimed, white, lacey/netty fabrics to dip into - what-if type thoughts arose : playing with white and windows, tiny hints of colour, honouring the work of others
i meant to play about with the pieces more...to pleat, tuck, tweak and generally what-if it, but the drive to produce took over from the process of exploring, along with the sewing machine - i learned a lesson about the choice between hand and machine stitching: hand-stitch wins for a process focus - but "salvation" is the end product ..... and it already make me smile as i pass it, even though i only hung it last night

and echoes of the cloth's past life
