CST - 5weeks in

struggling a bit to keep up here, for several reasons

firstly the brainfog because of my broken wrist is worse than i expected - the extra effort of dealing with everything with one hand working part-time is more draining than i had anticipated - it's 7 weeks since the break, the plaster was due off tomorrow but was remove two weeks ago because my skin was so sore, so i've been wearing a splint most of the time with time out to relieve the skin soreness - physio starts next week when i should get a better idea of how much i can use it, meanwhile it's just a nuisance and still not very usable ...... ok, moan over

next i'm struggling with applying the learning - it's mostly internal/cognitive/thought process stuff rather than practical skills or techniques, this tends to take longer to act on and/or show results so there's no concrete outcome to see - i feel i need some sort of exercise or activity which reinforces the learning but:

  • am struggling to do anything practical
  • don't feel that the given exercises match up
  • a week between lessons isn't quite long enough for me
next, i am making myself  "journal" my thinking on the lessons, this is feeling useful as my thoughts develop differently as i write them down on paper - word processing allows revision, correction and refinement and reprocessing the original thought before it is recorded - this is followed by a post for the course Open Studio, usual a distilled and tidied form of my raw journaled thinking  -  but doing this means i have less inclination and energy to post here, which i miss

plus i usually enjoy interaction with other course participants, but that isn't really happening on this course - our posts and comments on posts have to be uploaded by a third party, but there seems to be very little commenting on each others posts by participants - there is a facebook group but this feels too separated from the course and isn't generating the inter-participant support that i have found so helpful on other courses (especially those with jude) - this is a terrific shame because i have always found the sharing of support, suggestions, personal learning points and stumbling blocks is as useful as the actual course content

of course this takes extra time and energy from participants - for me this is part of my committment to learning, i know that i benefit from the experience of others and hope that what i share can be helpful to others so i have always found this to be an energising activity and time well spent - but i miss it here, it feels rather flat and more isolated

i must have too much time on my hands - it's time to DO something

it would be so hard doing a creative strength training course one handed, may your hand heal perfectly and soon!

actually it's a good time to do it as it's more about writing, thinking and mentally restructuring - keeps my mind occupied while i find stitching tricky

i am out of plaster now but will probably need surgery on a tendon later, so more plaster later ...... whoopee, grrrrr
