change of plan ..... again

i came home from yorkshire with plans to start some dyeing and other surface decoration dabblings ...... but i got waylaid ...... little mac (nearly 6 yr old neighbour) needed help with a sock cow! not my usual type of project but it's good to venture beyond my normal limits occasionally

i started with a practise animal on a larger pair of socks, the cow socks are very small and any mistake could lead to a very disappointed child ...... not something i wanted to be involved in

so the trial run ended up as a horse
...sort of
after that the cow was easier, with some expert help from mac with the stuffing and sewing on of buttons
the cow is much smaller than the horse really, but never mind
both turned out well - i was particularly pleased with the cow's tail, it was lovely and curly - according to mac's mum the horse is a manx horse, which is why it has no tail!

She had so much fun sewing with you. We can't thank you enough for teaching her such a valuable skill. There is no way I could have ever managed the cow, even though the recommended age was 4+ :-)

the recommended age on it was way out of line - the toy would appeal to children of that age but they would not have developed the hand-eye skills needed to make it look like the one on the box
but it worked as a learning experience for both of us!
