where was i?
a couple of weeks ago i was here:
in a bit of a flat phase again - festive season and coughing lurgy have been getting in the way - also i seem to be mainly tying up loose ends and feel as though i haven't been doing much - on reflection i realise that i am doing stuff but things are in the planning or winding up stages - that never feels like progress
i've made a start on my piece for threads of time 2, prepared a selection of works for an exhibition and am still developing my WWI project - but the lack of stitching leaves me feeling a bit lost
so for 2015 i've already got a couple of long term project on the go - threads of time 2 has to be completed by may and i have rather put myself in the hands of the other participants - i hope i don't regret that later -my focus is signatures, i am asking everyone to stitch their name with cloth and thread i am providing - then i will assemble the names along with other motifs from the archive material, probably in some sort of book format - i'm aiming for a textile record for the archive to keep
the fabric is a damask table cloth with a hunting theme (appropriate for Delme-Radcliffe family, one member wrote a book on the subject) - pure coincidence as the cloth was a charity shop item, bought to use as scrap & filler - it's been tea-dyed and cut up for distribution with instructions - now i just have to hope that everyone wants to play and think about what to do if they don't join in!
meanwhile i have been looking through documents for signatures and am very taken by the traders' marks on some of the shipping documents - i've been considering the different forms, meanings and uses of signatures, wondering how i can represent that ....?
