inspirations for memorial

a few of the ideas i am collecting for techniques and structure
Rozanne Hawksley
Pale Armistice

i remember being impressed by Rozanne Hawksley's work, this one in particular - it really spoke to me about the consequences of war
Guerra de la Paz
Spring, Sprang, Sprung

this structure showed what could be achieved on a large scale, but too ambitious for me
rag rugs - can't remember the source, sorry

i like the idea of a rag rug approach - it's portable, allows for a variety of different cloth types, can take on any shape - this collection of small pieces offers possibilities

fabric wreath from pinterest

another variation on the rag rug approach

jessica perry and pupils of hevingham primary school

i like this use of "memory sticks"

a couple of samples - both crumpled fabric assembled for a garland structure

Ive seen Rozannes wreath at a show and it brought tear to my eyes, its symbolic of so much that.
Your idea sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing what you do

i think her work might have sparked off my thinking about this project - she has done a lot around death, war and memorialising - some of it has been quite harrowing, this one appears to have a lighter touch (no pun intended)

on reflection though i think i want to focus on being more celebratory, but i'll talk about that another time

"Imagine there's no countriesā€Ø
It isn't hard to doā€Ø
Nothing to kill or die forā€Ø
And no religion too
ā€ØImagine all the peopleā€Ø
Living life in peace..."

and I still hold a flower of hope & peace in my heart whenever I listen to this song
