oops update - wingeing actually
i can' believe it's almost two weeks since i fell off that chair! i must have been drifting along in a daze since then - i don't feel as though i've made any progress
last week i was wiggling my fingers and thumb and the wrist was mostly pain free - now i have restricted movement in my thumb, it hurts my wrist when i try to move it and i can't extend the top voluntarily - some finger movements cause pain over the wrist and so does trying to grip anything, particularly with my middle and ring fingers - also, despite keeping my hand elevated as much as i can, my wrist seems to swell as the day progresses and the plaster feels tighter, causing all movement to be painful and a hint of pins & needles
as for the knee ...... the main problem is the splint slipping down - i can weight-bear with the splint on and done up securely, which is a relief, but applying and adjusting it with one hand is quite a struggle ...... 8 velcro straps!
i wasn't given much advice about managing my knee and online advice varies depending on what has been injured - as i don't know exactly what i damaged it's hard to know what to do - i called the fracture clinic after a week and was advised to keep it splinted until the orthopods have seen it and shared their wisdom
so i feel useless and concerned about ever regaining full use of both limbs - but that's probably normal at this stage - tomorrow i see the orthopods, so i hope to be able to sort out how to manage things a bit better
meanwhile i'd better get on with learning to dance in the rain instead of hiding from the storm ;-)
