after thoughts

so, over a week after the event i finally received the first photos - which were actually among the last taken on the day

for me they bring things around full circle - cloth chains on the war memorial

we ended the gathering with a walk up to the war memorial in the church cemetery - where Adelphe was memorialised along with others from Camiers (he was wrongly listed as George!)

during the gathering i handed out strips of blue silk, i showed some cousins how to join them and asked them to show the others what to do - this way made another on the day, with a link for each person present - some of us also added links for family members who were absent

doing this gave me an opportunity to make individual contact with some i had not talked to already - i found the response really heart-warming

i had wondered how my ragged chains would be accepted but i think they were understood on the whole - involving everyone in making one felt, to me, like an affirmation of family ties - but that was my aim so i suppose i would see it that way - nevertheless it felt positive and no-one refused, even the family cynic joined in.
