reflections on developing sketchbooks

i'm afraid i'm still finding this a little disappointing, largely due to the mismatch between my hopes of the course and how it is delivered

with online courses i do best when there is time given between delivery of the sessions/units, during which students carry out the brief, explore, reflect and share with each other - also i prefer group interaction through a site which enables discussion and exchange on each session/unit - in this way i find that students give each other feedback and support as well as there being feedback from the tutor

facebook is not really conducive to this approach and tends to give rise to individual posts with little interaction between students - it's more "look what i did"

i feel that i take responsibility for my own learning and try to not to have unrealistic expectations of courses - maybe i have been lucky in taking part in some which really suited me, but it is not always easy to identify these in advance

i would like tutors to be clearer about what they are "selling", be clear about the learning objectives and think about using the online format effectively - i come to online courses because they usually allow me to work in my own time and at a slower pace than a live course - delivering course material daily does not leave the option of when to work, it may as well be sold as a complete package

interaction between students is more difficult online, but i have found that tutors like jude hill, jane dunnewold and arlee barr have all facilitated this very well - the cost to students was reasonable and i felt that the support from both the tutors and students was not only excellent but also a central part of the package - when a course advertises an online support group for students this is what i expect

i don't feel that this course is really trying to meet students needs - but then it did not really ask what they were so i guess that could be seen as an unfair comment - on the other hand it did not state clearly what the course aims were, and i feel that is poor practice

late edit - i think i have just realised that i have a problem using my process focus to make progress with a task
when i focus on getting the task done i tend to just get on with it, but when i let process take the lead i have fun and just amble on, creating "stuff" with no definite end in sight - i need to work out how to use the fun bit (process) to get the job (task) done - i haven't found the course which helps me do that...... yet

I find the format for teachable.com the best. I just finished a year long class with India Flint and it was fabulous.
